Berkley City Councilman Launches State Representative Campaign

Dan Terbrack is vying to replace term-limited Rep. Ellen Cogen Lipton of Huntington Woods, who represents the 27th District.

Berkley City Councilman Dan Terbrack announced Wednesday that he is running for a seat in the Michigan House of Representatives in 2014.

The Democrat is vying to replace term-limited Rep. Ellen Cogen Lipton, D-Huntington Woods, who represents the 27th District, including Berkley, Huntington Woods, Ferndale, Hazel Park, Oak Park, Royal Oak Township and Pleasant Ridge.

Terbrack has served on the Berkley City Council since 2007, was selected mayor pro-tem in 2009 and worked as principal of Our Lady of La Salette Catholic School and Academy in Berkley before it was closed by the Archdiocese of Detroit earlier this year.

"Terbrack’s experiences as a civic leader and an educator have spurred him to run for State Representative," a campaign press release says. "Having served as a city councilman for six years, he has seen firsthand the impact that state-level policy has on our municipalities. Additionally, his career in education has given him the perspective needed to be a first-class advocate for public education in Michigan."

Berkley would appoint someone to serve out the remainder of his City Council term, which expires in 2015, if he is elected to state office in 2014, Terbrack said.
