Police Blotter: Racing Bikes and Equipment Taken; Driver Arrested

A motorist arrested along I-696 had an expired license, 39 suspensions and a warrant out for his arrest.

Public Safety officials in Berkley and Huntington Woods have tackled a variety of reports during the past week, including the following.

Driver with 39 suspensions arrested

A  officer reported observing a motorist at 2:37 a.m. Tuesday on westbound Interstate 696 near Scotia Road who drove over lane markers and had the turn signal on for approximately half a mile. After he was pulled over, the driver said his license was suspended, according to the report. An on-site investigation revealed that the driver's license had expired in 1997 and that the driver had 39 current suspensions, along with an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for his arrest from the 43rd District Court in Ferndale, the report said. The officer, along with an assisting officer who had arrived at the scene, arrested the man and took him to the Public Safety Department. The rental car he was driving was towed to storage. The driver posted $500 bond on the Ferndale charge and was directed to appear at the 43rd District Court within 10 days. He also was issued a court date in 45-B District Court in Oak Park and was released.

Racing bicycles reported stolen

Two people came to the on Saturday to report that their racing bicycles were taken from their garage in the 1600 block of Edgewood. The bikes were last known to be in the garage last fall and were discovered missing Saturday. The complainants said no force appeared to have been used to enter the garage. The bikes were used for triathlons; other bikes and valuables were not taken from the garage, the complainants said. There are no suspects at this time, according to the report.

Generator, air compressor taken from garage

A resident in the 4100 block of Buckingham in Berkley reported that sometime between March 10 and Friday, equipment was taken from his garage. The resident said he had not been present at the property during that time and that when he returned, he discovered that the garage door appeared to have been forced open. When he entered the garage, he found that a generator and an air compressor were missing, he reported. There are no suspects or witnesses, and no evidence was left at the scene, the report said.
