Man Killed in Fiery 3-Vehicle Crash Identified

Terrence Dyer, 42, of Detroit died Sunday night in the accident near 12 Mile and Greenfield roads.

The family of Terrence Dyer, 42, of Detroit has been notified he was the person killed Sunday night in a fiery three-car accident near 12 Mile and Greenfield roads, Deputy Director Robert North said Wednesday.

Dyer was killed and two others were hurt Sunday night after a vehicle traveling west on 12 Mile Road struck his westbound vehicle, pushing it across Greenfield Road, where a third vehicle traveling eastbound also was hit, North said.

Dyer's identity was confirmed through dental records, North said.

The names of the two others involved in the accident are not being released due to an ongoing criminal investigation and medical privacy rules, North said. The two other drivers were taken to William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, he said.

Southfield fire and police officials helped extinguish a fire that erupted after the first car – in which Dyer died – was struck from behind, North said. The Michigan State Police have joined Berkley Public Safety in the investigation, he said.

"We believe, initially, that speed was a factor," North said.
