UPDATED: Chase Bank in Huntington Woods Robbed; Suspect Shot in Pleasant Ridge

A suspect was wounded Monday morning in Pleasant Ridge after fleeing a robbery at the on Woodward Avenue in Huntington Woods.

A 911 caller tipped off the to the robbery and provided a description of the suspect and his vehicle, Lt. Ron Livingston said Monday afternoon. The branch was robbed just after 10 a.m., according to Royal Oak Police Interim Chief Corrigan O'Donohue, whose department assisted during the incident.

Officers caught up with the suspect as he fled southbound on Woodward Avenue before jumping out of his car and running into a Pleasant Ridge neighborhood, Livingston said.

O'Donohue said officers from Royal Oak and Huntington Woods pursued the suspect on foot before he was shot and fell in a driveway on Oxford in Pleasant Ridge.

"There was a confrontation and there were shots fired," Livingston confirmed.

The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, O'Donohue said. No law enforcement officers were injured, he added.

The Pleasant Ridge and Ferndale Police Departments, as well as the Berkley Public Safety Department, also assisted during the incident.

Livingston said Monday afternoon that he could not provide an update on the suspect's condition, say whether the man was armed or give any further details related to the ongoing investigation.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office will handle the shooting investigation, he said.

A news helicopter could be seen at midday hovering over the scene in Pleasant Ridge, where vehicles from the Huntington Woods Public Safety Department and Oakland County Sheriff's  Forensic Science Laboratory were parked.

Crime scene tape blocked off the area surrounding a white car parked facing the wrong way near the curb, where a patch of grass had been torn up.

"It's kind of shocking," Ferndale resident Katrina Davis said as she walked past the scene in Pleasant Ridge. "You don't really get to see much of this around this area. So, when you witness it, you're just like, 'woah.' "

Livingston said it's been dozens of years since the last bank robbery in Huntington Woods.

"It's very rare for this area," he said.
