Tyler McCullough – Royal Oak High School (Wrestling): The senior wrestler had a busy and successful week. He won a district championship on Saturday at Birmingham Groves in the 125-pound bracket. He won a 4-2 decision over Mark Wise of University of Detroit Jesuit in the finals and moves on to regionals next Saturday at L’Anese Cruese. Earlier in the week, he won both of his matches for the Ravens at the team districts on Thursday to help his team move on to regionals.

James Young – Troy High School (Boys Basketball): James Young might have had the game of the season on Tuesday night against Clarkston. Young set a new school record with 49 points to help his team win 79-74. He scored more than 30 points in the second half much to the delight of the home crowd. He came right back with a game-high 27 points in a 91-53 win over Berkley on Friday night.

Aarica McCray – Berkley High School (Girls Basketball): Aarica McCray didn’t make many friends in Ferndale this week. McCray scored nearly half her team’s points in a 48-36 win over University High School on Wednesday night. On Friday, her layup gave the Bears a 49-47 win over Ferndale High School. She finished the game with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 3 steals.

Chevez Farris – Ferndale High School (Wrestling): Farris won a district championship on Saturday at Warren Fitgerald. In the 171-pound bracket, he scored two technical falls and a majority decision on his way to the podium. In the quarters, the senior beat Holly’s Blake Cuthbert 15-0 and in the semifinals he won 20-5 over Centerline’s Jaocb Legree. In the finals, he won a majority decision 13-4 over Lamphere’s Shawn Miller.
