Try Hockey for Free at Berkley Winterfest

The Berkley Youth Hockey Association (BYHA, Inc.) is sponsoring
a “Try Hockey for Free Day” on February 1st, 2014 from 9am – 11:30am
in conjunction with Berkley Winterfest. 
As part of Berkley’s annual winter celebration, the Berkley Ice Arena
will be open to children 4-10 years old who would like to try skating and
experience the game of hockey.  Coaches,
players and parents from Berkley Youth Hockey and Berkley High School hockey
will be on hand to help equip kids and teach them to play the game.  Experienced skaters may also attend if they
have an interest in learning hockey.

The Berkley Ice Arena will also be the local host site for USA
Hockey’s “Hockey Weekend Across America” on March 1st from 9am
-11am.    This event will include free
USA Hockey Registration, goodie bags and USA Hockey Jerseys for all registered
participants.  Berkley Youth Hockey
Association coaches and players will be on hand to assist new players in
learning the game of hockey. 
Additionally, a limited amount of loaner equipment will be available for
participant trying the sport including helmets and sticks. "Hockey Weekend
Across America is one of the marquee events on the calendar each year,"
said Dave Ogrean, executive director of
USA Hockey. "This year will be unique as we'll celebrate Hockey Weekend
Across America the weekend immediately following the conclusion of the Olympic
Winter Games."  "Wear Your
Favorite Jersey Day" on Friday, Feb. 28, is the day for fans to show off
their hockey pride by wearing their prized hockey jerseys. USA Hockey's Facebook and Twitter pages will accept photos from
families, friends, and colleagues in search of the most passionate hockey
fans.  On Saturday, March 1, as part of
Try Hockey Day, sponsored by the NHL, hundreds of rinks nationwide will host
"Try Hockey for Free" clinics, sponsored by Liberty Mutual and Total
Hockey, allowing thousands of children to experience hockey for the first time.
