American Red Cross Blood Drive

Greenfield Presbyterian Church is hosting a summer blood drive to help with the
critical blood shortage in SE Michigan. The blood supply dwindles as
donors vacation, school systems are off and work sites schedule fewer
drives. Yet the need continues at a rate of 39,000 donations per day to
supply our nations' hospitals.

Donation is easy and safe. The process from start to finish takes
about an hour and 15 minutes. Each donor is given a "mini" physical
which includes blood pressure, temperature, pulse and hemoglobin. Women
donors are often deferred due to "low" hemoglobin. However, this is
usually not a serious health problem. To increase our chances of
donating, try to increase iron consumption 1-2 weeks before donating.
Iron helps the body form red blood cells.
The one year restriction after a tattoo has been eliminated, so you
can donate no matter how recent it was acquired. Also, be sure to bring
your donor card which will be scanned to accelerate the intake process.

Please sign up to donate at redcrossblood.org, use the date July 28,
or sponsor code greenfieldchurch to schedule your appointment. If you know that you are not an
eligible donor, encourage family, friends, or neighbors to donate. "The need is great. The gratification is instant. Give blood."
