Wind Chill Advisory in Effect for Oakland County

A wind chill advisory is in effect Tuesday for Oakland County and much of southeast Michigan, according to the National Weather Service.
The blistering cold winter weather prompted nearly 100 school closings throughout Metro Detroit, although the Berkley School District remains open.

The NWS reports that this "shot of arctic air ... will be the coldest of the season."
Temperatures will drop to the single digits and as low as -5 degrees Tuesday morning. The wind chill is expected to hit as low as 25 degrees below zero.

The wind chill advisory remains in effect until Tuesday afternoon in several counties besides Oakland, including: Wayne, Washtenaw, Macomb, Livingston and Genesee.
The NWS warns that prolonged skin exposure to the cold can result in frostbite and hypothermia. It's recommended that exposure to the elements is limited.
