Oktoberfest Anniversary Party

When: 6 p.m. Saturday

Where:

Why go: Dance to The Good Times Orchestra, enjoy local beers, a silent auction, dancing by the Sarisan Slovak Folk Ensemble and see the largest pumpkin grown in Michigan. Proceeds will benefit the market and the Royal Oak Historical Society.

Chalk & Chocolate Tour

When: 7 p.m. Friday; tours begin at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday

Where: Downtown Royal Oak

Why go: Catch chalk art, music and chocolate this weekend, starting with an opening night gala Friday night at , which features delectable delights from Royal Oak restaurants. The Brothers Groove will perform and internationally renowned artists will be on hand, including David Zinn, Larry Stephens and Keith Coleman. The event will kick off the weekend tours of chocolate sculptures, chalk art and even a 12-foot Fire Breathing Dragon designed by metal artist Keith Coleman. Guests can pick up programs at the corner of Fifth and Washington – just look for the Fire Breathing Dragon.

Fall color walk

When: 1 p.m. Sunday

Where: Meet at 

Why go: Learn about Huntington Woods' urban forest during a fall color walk led by arborist and Oakland Community College faculty member Marshal Baeckroot.

Moira Young at Library

When: 2:30-4 p.m. Sunday

Where: 

Why go: Young readers who are fans of dystopian fiction will enjoy meeting this author. The Book Beat in Oak Park and the are pleased to welcome Moira Young to the Berkley High School Collaborative Center in conjunction with the release of her debut young adult novel Blood Red Road. She will speak and autograph copies of the first in a planned trilogy.
