The High Strung and Drew Bardo

  • Cost: Paperbacks start at only a quarter.
  • Why go: Get a deal on adult, young adult and children's selections from best-sellers to classics. Proceeds benefit the library. Open to the public.

Ferndale Blues Festival: Blues Brunch

  • When: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: The Emory, 22700 Woodward Ave., Ferndale
  • Cost: $8.95 for most dishes
  • Why go: Savor Southern Fried Chicken, Biscuits & Gravy and Blues Berry Pancakes, as well as other breakfast favorites, during the Ferndale Blues & Music Festival. The Emory also offers up $3 mimosas and a Bloody Mary bar during brunch.

Berkley Daddy-Daughter Dance

  • When: 5 to 6:30 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: Cost: The dance costs $7 per couple, $3 per additional daughter.
  • Why go: "Berkley Parks and Recreation, Berkley/Huntington Woods Youth Assistance in conjunction with the Berkley Junior Women's Club invite daughters and dads to enjoy a night of dancing and refreshments. Grandpas, uncles or others are welcome to escort the little ladies, as well," reads an event listing on Berkley Patch. "Corsages will be provided, as well as a snapshot of the occasion. This is a formal event, Berkley Parks says. Guys in ties, girls in pearls."
