Week in Review: West Nile Virus, Levin Rallies Democrats and Berkley Farm Stand Opens

Here's what happened in and around Berkley and Huntington Woods.

We shared a lot of good information last week and want to make sure you didn't miss a thing, so here are some highlights:

  •  With more than 100 confirmed cases of West Nile Virus – including five deaths – in Michigan so far this year, the Oakland County Health Division is urging residents to take extra precautions this weekend.
  •  Judge sends case to trial after Brent Smetana, 20, waives his right to have a preliminary examination.
  •  The rare occurrence corresponds with a private memorial ceremony for astronaut Neil Armstrong, who died Aug. 25 in Ohio at age 82.
  •  Here's all the information you need to know about the Great Lakes State Fair in Novi today through Labor Day.

  •  Residents are urged to educate themselves about how the disease is spread – the LaSalle Boulevard fountain is not a mosquito breeding ground, for example – and take protective measures such as wearing long-sleeve shirts and long pants.

  •  The Office of National Drug Control Policy funds will be used to address underage alcohol, marijuana and prescription drug use, according to the nonprofit.

  •  The five artists' works will be on exhibit to the public Sept. 4-28 at Park West Gallery in Southfield.
