Week in Review: Run/Walk BOOM!!!, Shanti Yoga Opens, 12 Mile-Coolidge Work, BHS Test Scores Released

Here's what happened in and around Berkley and Huntington Woods.

We shared a lot of good information last week and want to make sure you didn't miss a thing, so here are some highlights:

  • : Hundred of participants hit the streets Saturday in Huntington Woods to help raise funds for the city's annual Fourth of July fireworks display over Rackham Golf Course.
  • : Neither city has elected to pass its own regulations – as some Michigan communities have – in response to a new state law that says municipalities cannot regulate use on federal holidays or the day right before and after.
  • : The Bears senior soccer player was the team's leading goal scorer and received 75 percent of the vote.
  • : A family-friendly grand opening event was held Saturday at 2769 Coolidge Highway.
  • : Justices vote 5-4, with Chief Justice John Roberts the deciding vote, on controversial Obamacare.
  • : Test results released Thursday show students made gains in math, reading, science and writing, but performed worse this year in social studies, as did students statewide.
  • : Dennis Flessland, a Sons of Norway member and honorary consul to Michigan, selected to receive The King’s Knight First Class of the Order of Merit.
  • : Motorists are urged to follow posted traffic detours during construction at the corner of 12 Mile Road and Coolidge Highway or face penalties.
  • : Readers are encouraged to share how they've managed to juggle their careers with parenthood – and personal hygiene.
