Here's what happened in and around Berkley and Huntington Woods.

  • : Government officials and residents took to Twitter and Facebook to react to the news Saturday that Wisconsin's Paul Ryan was Mitt Romney's vice presidential nominee.
  • : According to news reports, L. Brooks Patterson suffered broken bones as a passenger in an Auburn Hills crash but is expected to make a full recovery.

  • : The Berkley SummerFest event will be held Aug. 23, weather permitting.
  • : The city is in second place in the Recyclebank and SC Johnson Green Choices Recycling Challenge among 50 communities participating across the United States.
  • : The state agency has mandated that Title I schools with significant achievement gaps – such as Norup International School – must allow some students to transfer within the district beginning in the 2012-13 school year.

  • : Craig Covey of Ferndale loses his seat to the Huntington Woods resident; Republican candidate Steven Zimberg, also of Huntington Woods, ran unopposed to represent the new 18th District.
  • : Macomb County businessman Don Volaric will face U.S. Rep. Sander Levin in the general election to represent Michigan's 9th Congressional District in Washington.
  • : The Huntington Woods resident will face off against Republican candidate Ezra Drissman of Oak Park in November.
  • : Current U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow will face Pete Hoekstra in the November election after voters narrowed the field Tuesday during the August primary.
  • : "At the end of the day, the community spoke. Now we've got to work together," resident Marc Herron says of the Municipal Operating, Police and Fire Millage Proposal that received 69 percent approval at the polls Tuesday.
  • : The Detroit Institute of Arts millage passed in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties on Tuesday.
