VIDEO: 92-Year-Old Marine Honored on Memorial Day

Rochester Hills resident Leon Gorsline is inducted into the Berkley-based Cpl. Stanley L. Moore Detachment of the Marine Corps League.

Nearly 70 years after , 92-year-old Leon Gorsline, while proudly wearing his favorite Marine Corps baseball cap, was inducted into the Berkley-based Cpl. Stanley L. Moore Detachment of the Marine Corps League on Monday afternoon.

The brief ceremony at the , where Gorsline resides, immediately followed the City of Troy Memorial Day Ceremony, during which several members of the League .

The League waived the normal membership dues for Gorsline, who received a Purple Heart after he was shot in Peliliu. Gorsline was one of only six Marines from his platoon to survive six months in Guadalcanal.

"Leon is the epitome of the Marine Corps," said Tim McGee, a Troy resident and Marine Corps League Jr. Vice Commandant. "Once a Marine, always a Marine. We don't forget them."
