Twitter Outage Hits Berkley Patch Account

Users of the social networking site in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa were affected Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

Berkley Patch was not immune to a Twitter outage that affected users around the world Thursday, the day before were set to kick off in London.

While the social networking site appeared to be working again Thursday afternoon, earlier in the day users were greeted with an error message when attempting to access the service via computer.

"The outage — which was first noticed at around 11:15 a.m. ET and had been down for about an hour — didn’t even displaying the company’s typical 'fail whale' logo it typically posts during down times," according to social media site mashable.com. "The platform has since come back for some across the U.S (with limited functionality), while others are reporting that it is still down."

Some users were able to access Twitter using phones or third-party applications, according to the Associated Press.

"Users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter," read a message on the social media company's website. "Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue."

Outages were reported for more than an hour Thursday in countries in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa, according to the AP.

"The Olympics are expected to bring an unprecedented surge of activity by sports fans on social networking sites such as Twitter," the AP reported. "At the recent European Championship final, users fired off more than 15,000 tweets per second, setting a sports-related record for the site."
