Storm Wallops Berkley, Huntington Woods

Up to 9 inches of snow blanket cities; luckily schools and offices are closed for President's Day.

Plows were hard at work clearing the streets Monday as residents worked to dig out their driveways and porches from the latest snowstorm to hit Berkley and Huntington Woods, which topped the promised "storm of the century" that hit several weeks ago.

A ruler check Monday morning revealed approximately 9 inches of the white stuff had fallen in Huntington Woods. Luckily, the and are closed for midwinter break and Berkley and Huntington Woods city and court offices are closed for President's Day.

City plow crews were quick to hit the neighborhood streets and the Road Commission for Oakland County tackled Woodward Avenue.

"(RCOC) crews have been out battling the storm since 2 p.m. yesterday," according to an update on the Road Commission's website. "By late afternoon, we had increased the number of trucks out to 83. By about 11:30 p.m., we  had our full contingent of 106 trucks out.

"Overnight, the challenge was that the snow was coming down so hard that we couldn’t keep up with it. By the time a truck finished its plow route, the beginning of the route was completely covered again. Our garages are reporting we received 8 to 10 inches of snow across the county – far more than fell during the 'storm of the century' several weeks ago."
