Zoo docent Sharon Knoppow said some children have had reservations about entering because the room is very dark.

“Some children are a little afraid,” Knoppow said, “but other kids don’t want to leave!”

The room is cool and carpeted. Some visitors sit on the floor to watch the 7-minute presentation. It’s a nice way to take a short break from the summer heat.

The Detroit Zoo is the second zoo in the country to install Science On a Sphere as a permanent attraction; the other is the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. There are 62 Science On a Sphere systems operating in the United States.

While your at the zoo, don't forget to get your dose of vitamin-z, and visit , which is open daily through Labor Day.
