Register for Firecracker Scramble to Support July Fourth Tradition

The event May 23 at Rackham Golf Course supports the annual fireworks celebration in Huntington Woods.

If you're a golfer, or even if you just like fresh air and prizes, you have the opportunity to help keep the Huntington Woods Fourth of July fireworks alive and well.

You can contribute by registering through Monday for the Firecracker Scramble, which will be held at 9 a.m. May 23 at . The four-person scramble costs $75 per golfer, which includes green fees, carts, lunch and prizes.

In December,  because of budget constraints and sought community support to raise funds for the event. The fireworks have been funded in the past largely by the residents' association and the Men's Club, with the city covering the balance, the mayor said.

This year, the Men’s Club is changing its usual Tax Raffle held every year on the Fourth of July. Raffle winners used to have a portion of their city property taxes paid for. Beginning this year, the raffle will be called the Fireworks Raffle, and all proceeds will go toward funding the fireworks displays. The raffle has brought in about $6,000 in past years. .

This year, the City Commission agreed to renew Huntington Woods' contract with Colonial Fireworks for the same cost as last year, $13,500. But the city still needs residents' help to offset the balance of the cost for this beloved tradition.
