Power Restored for Thousands in Berkley, Huntington Woods
More than 3,000 customers were affected by the outage that began about 3 a.m. Wednesday. DTE says a cable failure was to blame.
More than 3,000 DTE customers were without power this hot, muggy morning in Berkley and Huntington Woods.
The power outage began around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, caused by an underground cable failure, said Scott Simons, spokesman for DTE. It was restored by 8 a.m., though the cause of the cable failure is unknown.
“It’s hard to say what it’s from. The cables fail from time to time,” he said. “We can’t guaranteed (it won’t happen again), but it’s been repaired now and everything seems to be holding.”

The outage affected a large patch of Berkley between 11 and 12 Mile roads between Greenfield and Coolidge as well as south of 11 Mile and east of Coolidge in Huntington Woods, according to DTE's power outage map.
For tips on how to be as prepared as possible for sudden power outages, Simons recommends DTE’s tips and reminders during an outage, which includes tips such as keeping flashlights handy and water bottles nearby, especially in weather we're having with temperatures in the 90s.
