UPDATED: DTE Says Power Has Been Restored in Berkley

An outage Thursday was related to early morning storms, a spokesman says.

A power outage that affected some customers in Berkley today has been resolved, according to DTE Energy.

Spokesman Len Singer chalked the outage up to bad weather that moved through the area between 2 and 4 a.m. and said approximately 35,000 customers in Metro Detroit lost power.

"Things are pretty much back to normal," he said Thursday evening.

Earlier Thursday, spokesman Alejandro Bodipo-Memba said approximately 100 customers were impacted in Berkley. An outage map on DTE's website indicated 224 consumers were without power in the 48072 zip code.

Also Thursday, WWJ reported that a major outage in dowtown Detroit cut power to city buildings, traffic lights and schools. ClickonDetroit.com, the webiste of WDIV-Channel 4 also Tweeted that classes were canceled at Wayne State University's main campus in Detroit.
