Berkley and Huntington Woods experience significant flooding after showers Sunday.

Streets throughout Berkley and Huntington Woods flooded Sunday after a thunderstorm moved into the area during the late afternoon, mingling with blues skies before turning into an all-out soaker.

By 6:30 p.m., cars were barely making it through the water that had accumulated on Tyler in Berkley, resident and Berkley Patch contributor Alissa Malerman said.

After the sun came out, neighbors congregated, crossing their fingers that their basements would stay dry, Malerman reported.

Dylan Trondle jumped on an inner tube as his dad pushed him along the street.

"Boys will be boys," his mom Trish said with a sigh.

Over on LaSalle in Huntington Woods, 11-year-old Brynn Cudney also took the opportunity to frolic in the rain. She  went out outside – wearing a coat and boots – with her grandpa to start up his truck, which had water halfway up its tires, she said.

Her brother joined them in the rain. "He had no shoes and no coat on," said Brynn, her hair still wet as she spoke. "So, I just took off my stuff and started playing in the rain."

Unfortunately, the soaker wasn't all fun and games.

in Berkley, – was deluged again Sunday.

"We were all happy that we got everything all cleaned up" from Saturday, owner Dan McCourt said as an army of fans blew throughout the shop Sunday evening.

However, as he headed back to the shop Sunday to prepare rental equipment for delivery, it began to rain again and the flooding resumed, he said.

McCourt said he'll have a plumber and roofing contractors come out to examine the building Monday after a city inspection failed to pinpoint the flooding's cause.

"The () was great," he said. "All the guys at the city were great to come out so quickly on a Saturday."

He said the crew put a camera into the storm sewer, which connects in front of the building rather than the back where recent construction work was done, and saw no problems.

Luckily, he said Sunday's flooding was not as bad as Saturday's and lessons will go on as scheduled Monday.

"This is our busiest time of year. We're in the school music business," a still-smiling McCourt said. "The timing wasn't so good, but are you gonna do?"

Meanwhile, near the corner of Beverly and Gardner in Berkley, the road was blocked off Sunday night due to a tree branch that fell on a power line. Members of the were on hand, awaiting representatives from DTE Energy, and said no one was injured.

Only one outage was reported Sunday in Berkley and none in Huntington Woods, according to DTE's power outage map.

The area is expected to get a reprieve from the wet weather during the day Monday, when the forecast calls for sunshine and a high near 80, according to the National Weather Service. However, a chance of showers and thunderstorms looms again Monday evening, the NWS says.
