National Weather Service Issues Warning About Thunderstorms

Hail and high winds and heavy downpours are possible through the evening.

Update, 7:40 p.m.: The most severe weather appears to be staying to the south of us, with at least tornado and damage reported in Dexter. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 9 p.m.

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 11 p.m., with some storms could be severe with large hail and damaging winds, according to the National Weather Service. There will be fog after 2 a.m. through the morning. 
 

3:40 p.m.: Heavy thunderstorms are headed toward Metro Detroit, according to a special weather statement the National Weather Service issued at 3:40 p.m. today.

According to the statement, the storms have the potential to bring heavy downpours, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning strikes, wind gusts up to 40 mph half-inch diameter hail. 

The NWS warns the storms have the potential to increase in strength as they move through southeast Michigan.

Storms are expected to continue tonight, with areas of heavy fog possible. 

 

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 11pm. Some storms could be severe, with large hail and damaging winds. Widespread fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 54. West southwest wind between 5 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. 

Friday: Widespread fog before 10am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 70. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm.
