Moms Talk: Will New Rules Inspire You to Ditch Your Drop-Side Rail Crib?

Post a comment to share your thoughts on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's enforcement of tougher standards.

Last week in Moms Talk (dads, you're welcome to chime in, too!), we asked you whether cloth or disposable diapers work better and how you managed to save money and reduce waste when diapering your baby. Here's what you had to say:

  • Alissa Malerman: "I still feel pretty guilty about using disposable diapers on my kids, as I know they're still in a landfill somewhere. But it makes me feel just slightly better that cloth diapers can leave a carbon footprint, too. Although I do feel that cloth seems the better choice and if I could do it again, I would probably give them a try, especially after discovering Modern Baby in Ferndale. They seem the most cost-effective and least wasteful."
  • Libby Turpin: "I always used disposable, but this was five years ago. My girlfriend swears by cloth diapers though. She says there are very few leaks or messy; they are easy to put on; they do not stink up the house; they are environmentally friendly. Overall, she said it also helped her potty train her kids. Most kids don't like the wetness against their skin that disposable diapers soak up. Therefore, they are more eager to leave the diaper experience."

This week, we'd like to hear you weigh in on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's . If you have a drop-side rail crib, will you replace it? What about the one up your attic you've been hanging onto for a loved one?
