Huntington Woods Fourth of July Festivities to Kick Off

A Concert in the Park, Chalk Art Contest and Baby Parade will be held Tuesday evening at Scotia Park.

Huntington Woods kicks off the lead-up to its 40th annual with festivities Tuesday that include a Concert in the Park, Chalk Art Contest and Baby Parade.

Get to by 6 p.m. to check out the sure-to-be-adorable Baby Parade, in which residents ages 9 to 24 months will get to sing and play with toys. Door prizes will be awarded, and two winners will get to ride in the Fourth of July parade. Call Lisa Anderson 248-541-3030 for more information or to register your baby.

Then stake out a spot for your blanket or lawn chair before the Detroit jazz-swing band Real Deal begins to play at 7:15 p.m. for the season's second Concert in the Park. While you're at the park Tuesday, check out creations in the Chalk Art Contest, sponsored by in Royal Oak. Those who preregistered in four categories – entering second grade and younger; entering third through fifth grades; middle and high school; and adult – will replicate a drawing depicting the theme Peace & Love using sidewalk chalk. Judges will name the winner in each category at 8 p.m.

The swim team, the Hurricanes, will sell refreshments, and the Babysitting Co-op will do face-paintings for $1 during the festivities.
