Get Out: Turn Your Kid Into a Monster, Become a Musician and More
This weekend, you can hold your breath until your team makes it into the Big Dance, take in some true Americana or just hibernate.
To borrow a phrase from Al Roker, "here's what's happening in your neck of the woods" this weekend:
Where/when: , 28557 Woodward Ave.; Friday, 7 p.m.
Why go: The name is Falk, but the music is folk. Well, folk/acoustic/Americana. You know, the kind of music that takes you back to the good old days, when country wasn't shellacked and sheened, and artists didn't need fireworks and a Facebook page to make you smile peacefully and bob your head.

Why go: There are never enough activities to keep young kids happy, but the Huntington Woods Public Library keeps coming up with gems. This event, suggested for third-graders and older but up to parents' discretion, brings in expert Keith Faychak to show the little ones how ordinary Muggles are transformed into movie villains and monsters. One lucky child, chosen at random, will get to undergo the amazing process, right before his friends' very eyes. Space is limited, so call 248-543-9720 to register.

Where/when: , 3039 W. 12 Mile Rd.; Monday-Thursday 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Friday 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Why go: OK, so this isn't an actual event, per se, but, after hearing a lot of great shows at the Hamtramck Blowout last weekend, my love for real, live, homegrown music has intensified. So I'd like to encourage everyone to go talk to our friends down at Berkley Music. Whether you want to take up an instrument yourself or let your daughter finally get that drum kit she's been begging for, the folks there can hook you up with gear and give you (or find someone to give you) lessons. Hey, you won't sound like Ke$ha – but that's the good part!

4. SELECTION SUNDAYWhere/when: , 3071 W. 12 Mile Rd., all weekend
Why go: There aren't any NCAA Division I basketball games this Sunday, but it'll still be all about the Big Dance. Selection Sunday is the day when the teams that make the tournament are announced, and 24 Seconds will be serving up coverage all day. You might need a beer for this one, because it's gonna be a real nail-biter for fans of Michigan's two largest universities. At this point, no one's sure whether U-M, Michigan State, both, or neither will make it into the tournament.
Pricing: No cover
5. SIT AT HOME AT WAIT FOR SPRING TO SPRINGWhere/when: Your house, for the foreseeable future
Why go: I'm not going to lie, folks. The weather this weekend is bad. Not "Snowmageddon" bad. No, it's worse than that. The National Weather Service predicts it will be "mostly cloudy" with a "chance of rain and snow." Ick. I think I might just lie in bed and watch reruns of The Real Housewives all weekend. But I won't tell anyone, of course.
