Urban Prairie CD Release Party

When: 9:30 p.m. Friday

Why go: Come early to grab dinner and a seat. Then stick around to celebrate the release of Urban Prairie's latest CD. Click here to listen to music by the Americana-country band, whose members hail from Berkley and Detroit.

Gilbert Gottfried

Why go: Check out the stand-up comedian and one-time voice of the Aflac insurance duck's schtick when he plays two shows.

Sunset at the Zoo

When: 7-11:30 p.m. Friday

Where: , 8450 W. 10 Mile Road, Royal Oak

Why go: Eat, drink and be merry during this 21-and-older -themed fundraiser for the Detroit Zoological Society. There will be food from 40 restaurants, zoo-inspired martinis, music, dancing, prizes, live auctions and more. Participants also will be have access to the animal exhibits and be able to check out Dinosauria, which features more than 30 life-like animatronic dinosaurs that roar, snarl and move.

Splash and Dash

When: Check-in begins at 7 a.m. Sunday; event begins at 8 a.m.

Why go: Competitors will jump into the pool and then dash around the track behind in this family fun event that will include snacks and raffle prizes.

Cost: $15

What else: Race distances vary in the two divisions, one for youngster ages 7-14  and a family division for a parent and child. Participants must register by 6 p.m. Friday, but the deadline has passed to receive a T-shirt with registration.
