Spectacular Shrine Circus

Why go: The Shrine Circus is an old-fashioned circus, right down to the Big Top and the cotton candy that is hawked throughout the performances. If you like circuses, this one has it all – clowns, elephants, tigers, lions, horses, jugglers, aerialists and dare devil acts.

Why Go: The monthly Friends of the Library book sale is Saturday, so get ready to grab your reusable shopping bags and load up. Shoppers will be able to take home fiction and nonfiction titles. Proceeds benefit the library.
Cost: Hardcovers will be available for $1 and paperbacks will sell for 50 cents, or three for $1.

Why go: With the possibility of snow in the weekend forecast, it's the perfect time to grab a pass and spend the day exploring a local museum. Participating institutions include the Arab American National Museum, Birmingham Bloomfield Art Museum, Detroit Children's Museum, Detroit Institute of Arts Pewabic Pottery and more.

Why go: More than 20 Royal Oak restaurants will offer special menu items and great, affordable prices in what organizers hope will be an annual event.
Cost: Each eatery will offer three-course meals for $15 or $25, depending on the location. The price does not include beverages, gratuity or tax.
What else: No passes or reservations are required to take part in the special deal at any of the participating restaurants, though reservations are encouraged to guarantee seating.
