'The Sweetness of Freedom' book discussion

Why go: The Jewish Historical Society of Michigan hosts authors Martha Aladjem Bloomfield and Stephen Garr Ostrander, who will discuss their book The Sweetness of Freedom: Stories of Immigrants, a 2011 Michigan Notable Book Award winner. Oak Park resident Benno Levi will share his story of escaping Germany and serving in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Cost: Tickets are $5 for Jewish Historical Society of Michigan members and $8 for nonmembers.

'When the World Renews' art exhibit

Why go: The photography department at Oakland Community College in Royal Oak is showcasing an exhibit of student work now through April 22. There will be 113 color, black and white and digital prints in the campus lower level between B and D buildings, and on the second floor of D building next to the theater.
