Disabled American Veterans To Distribute Forget-Me-Nots

Members of the new Berkley post hope to get to know the community and raise funds Saturday by giving out flowers at Durst Lumber and Hiller's Market.

Members of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 19, post in Berkley will distribute forget-me-nots Saturday at and as a gesture of goodwill toward their new community.

The D.A.V. Chapter 19 moved into a space on Coolidge Highway in March and work on the facility's public spaces was completed over the Fourth of July weekend, Commander Ken Richardson said.

The site will provide veterans with counseling, job training and assistance navigating benefits programs, as well as opportunities to connect socially and professionally. Richardson and veteran advocate Robert Kakos said D.A.V. Chapter 19 also is open to the public.

The D.A.V. members will give out forget-me-nots from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Durst Lumber and .  

Donations are appreciated, D.A.V. member John Williams said.

The forget-me-not distribution will serve as a fundraiser, as well as an opportunity for D.A.V. members to meet people in Berkley and  disseminate information to veterans, Williams said.
