Busy Weekend on Tap in Berkley

Check out "A Weekend of Holy Foolery" at the Song and Spirit Institute, the "Spooky Skatacular" at the Ice Arena, the "Spooktacular Carnival" at the Community Center or a pancake breakfast at Our Lady of La Salette Church.

Berkley will be a hive of activity this weekend and we've got the scoop on the goings-on!

A Weekend of Holy Foolery

  • When: 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, 9:45 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. Saturday, 1-3 p.m. Sunday; click here for a full schedule.
  • Where: Song and Spirit Institute for Peace, 2599 Harvard, Berkley.
  • Cost: Donations welcome.
  • Why go: The Song and Spirit Institute for Peace will host a weekend of minstrels, troubadours, jugglers, friars, superheroes, stories and wisdom from many faith traditions. Refreshments will be served. Kids are invited to wear their costumes Sunday.

Spooky Skatacular

  • When: 5-7 p.m. Saturday.
  • Where: Berkley Ice Arena.
  • Cost: Admission is free for those in costumes. Rental skates cost $2.
  • Why go: Kids can hit the ice in costume during the third annual event. Those who dress up will receive a goodie bag and prizes.
  • What else: Call 248-658-3460 for more information.

Halloween Spooktacular Carnival

  • When: 6-7 p.m. or 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: Berkley Community Center
  • Cost: Tickets cost $4; there are a limited number for each session. They are available from 8:30 a.m. through 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Community Center.
  • Why go: Dress up your little ones, have their pictures taken with the Great Pumpkin and enjoy a carnival with prizes, candy and games.
  • What else: This event, put on by the Berkley Parks & Recreation Department and Berkley Junior Women's Club, is designed for children from age 3 through fifth grade who live in Berkley or attend the Berkley School District. Call 248-658-3470 for more information.

Pancake breakfast

  • When: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
  • Where: Our Lady of La Salette Church
  • Cost: $4 each or $12 per family.
  • Why go: Enjoy all-you-can-eat pancakes and a serving of sausage, coffee, tea, milk and juice to support the church's mission work next summer.
