Weekend Planner: Live Music, Mark Rothman Lecture, Girl Scouts’ 5K

Kick off the weekend early this week with live entertainment at . The Rickety Nelsons will return for a free show there Thursday, playing the best of ‘50s- and ‘60s-style music.

Live entertainment at O’Mara’s

The Rickety Nelsons take the stage at 9 p.m. Thursday with a set list of everything from Elvis to doo-wop and juke boxes hits. It's a popular show, so reservations are recommended by calling 248-399-6750.

On Saturday, the Celtic band Blackthorn will perform at O’Mara’s for a 9:30 p.m. show. There's a $5 cover, though no reservations are needed for this lively show ().

TV Writer Mark Rothman at Huntington Woods Library

Head to the on Thursday evening for a special lecture by TV writer Mark Rothman. He’s the mastermind behind shows such as Laverne and Shirley, Happy Days and The Odd Couple, and will talk about his years of writing classic television sitcoms.

The event begins at 7 p.m. and it’s free. Copies of his book, Mark Rothman's Essays: Many About Show Biz and All About Life, will be available after the presentation for purchase.

5K Walk for Girl Scouts

The fundraiser supports Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan and helps celebrate the 100-year milestone dubbed “Year of the Girl.”

The cost to participate is $30 and includes admission, parking and a T-shirt for the walk. Join in for the opening ceremony at 8 a.m. and begin the walk at 8:30 a.m.
