Weekend Planner: Live Music at O'Mara's, Home Tour and More

Looking for things to do around town this weekend? We've got you covered.

There are several fun happenings around town this weekend, including a strolling neighborhood tour and a nearby food truck rally to sample a dozen eateries. 

Here's a look at what's going on and ideas to make the most of the next few days.

Live entertainment at O’Mara’s

If you’re on the lookout for fun local happenings over the next couple of days, you won’t want to miss the live entertainment at  in Berkley.

Friday at 9 p.m., O’Mara’s will host The Rickety Nelsons for a show of the best ‘50s and ‘60s classic country, Elvis, juke box hits and more. This event is free and O’Mara’s says it’s a popular gig, so reservations are recommended. Call 248-399-6750 for more information and to reserve your spot.

Saturday, O’Mara’s will host another show. While this one isn’t free, Blackthorn’s performance of Celtic music makes for a lively Irish bash that is worth the $5 cover charge.

Traditional songs of emigration, sea shanties, lively jigs and reels, and ancient airs are combined with some of Ireland’s best contemporary in the one-of-a kind show.

Each of the four band members plays multiple instruments, including wooden flute, accordion, tin whistle, five string banjo, cittern, bones and more. Blackthorn is led Richard McMullen, a vocalist hailing from Belfast.

The show starts at 9:30 p.m.

Huntington Woods Home Tour

House and home lovers have been eagerly awaiting the , which will explore five beautiful local homes starting at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Different architectural styles around the city will be showcased. Money raised goes toward local charities and community projects.

If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, they will still be available the day of the tour for $20 at the , or advance tickets are $15.

will take place rain or shine. 

Dine & Drive in the D

If you’re feeling up for an adventure to sample some new cuisines, try grabbing lunch at the food truck rally event 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday in downtown Detroit.

The free event called  is organized by Southfield-based Farbman Group, a real estate company that manages the Fisher Building and New Center One in Detroit. Stop by Third Street between Lothrop Road and West Grand Boulevard in Detroit to taste the wide range of cuisine from the area’s food trucks. There will also be a DJ and music by the local Detroit Bucket Drummers.

Admission to the event is free and all tips to participating vendors will be donated to local charities.

Participating food trucks include Treat Dreams, Jacques’ Tacos, El Guapo Fresh Mexican Grill, Frank’s Anatra, Concrete Cuisine, Ned’s TravelBurger, The People’s Pierogi Collective, Mac Shack, Green Zebra and Chow Catering.
