Give the gift of sweets to Indulge your sweetheart's sweet tooth.

A shared love of sweets has inspired Huntington Woods residents Sherry and Mel Foster to track down each other's favorite treat on special occasions for the past 30 years.

On Friday, Sherry Foster could be found at in Berkley picking up the couple's signature candy: Sydney Boggs' dark chocolate honey nougat.

"This is a wonderful place," Foster said as she browsed boxed chocolates and confections on display in a glass case.

The candy shop on 12 Mile Road was a hive of activity as it ramped up for Valentine's Day on Monday, which co-owner Lisa Peasley said is probably Sweet Essentials' third-busiest holiday behind Christmas and Easter.

She said the most popular item among Valentine's Day customers are the turtles: "A bed of pecans, caramel on top, chocolate on top of that – so it really does look like a turtle."

Some would-be Romeos get a little more creative, she said.

"We've had a couple of people propose with a chocolate champagne bottle that's hollowed out and they put the ring inside," Peasley said.
