Tubby's to Open Sub Shop in Berkley

Find out when the sandwich franchise at 2375 Coolidge Highway will open and get a taste of what it will offer.

A sign outside 2375 Coolidge Highway in Berkley promises a Tubby's Grilled Submarines shop is "Coming Soon!" – but when?

The sandwich shop will open in approximately five to six weeks, which is in mid-September, pending inspections and permits, according to Tubby's Director of Marketing Marci Karp.

"Father and son Sam and Shaun Marogi are the owners," Karp said. "Sam grew up in Berkley and is proud to open this Tubby’s location in Berkley to get involved in and give back to the community."

The building has long stood vacant and a plan to open a Big Pickles Deli at the site last year failed due to insufficient rent payments by the previous tenant.

The new Tubby's franchise will feature a drive-through, outdoor dining, gluten-free products, catering and delivery, Karp said. She added a grand opening celebration will be held and details will be released once a date has been determined.
