The Berkley Farm Stand to Open in July

"We had considered opening this spring for plant season, but the weather has been so unpredictable ... that we're going to hold off on that plan," owner Laura Uhlianuk says.

Fans of The Berkley Farm Stand will have to wait a bit longer to pick up their Michigan farm-fresh fruits and veggies in downtown Berkley.

Owner Laura Uhlianuk said the stand, which will be located in the empty lot next to Clark's Ice Cream & Yogurt, is scheduled to open for produce season in July.

"We're aiming for July 12," Uhlianuk said Monday. "We had considered opening this spring for plant season, but the weather has been so unpredictable ... that we're going to hold off on that plan until probably 2014."

Uhlianuk, a Berkley native, and her husband Lee grow the stand's produce at Uhlianuk’s Specialties From the Farm, LLC, in North Branch.

"We start all of our vegetable plants in our own greenhouses with organic, non- GMO seed," The Berkley Farm Stand website says. "... At The Berkley Farm Stand we are committed to selling 100% Michigan grown. Less than 24 hours soil to stand. The only thing better than that is growing it yourself!"
