The Berkley Farm Stand Reopens With New Hours
The stand will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays or until sold out in the vacant lot next to Clark's Ice Cream & Yogurt on Twelve Mile Road.
The Berkley Farm Stand reopened for the season Friday, much to shoppers' delight.
The fresh produce stand – which offers a variety of fruits and vegetables grown by Berkley native Laura Uhlianuk and her family in North Branch, as well as free-range eggs, honey and baked goods – will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays or until sold out.
"We've had so much positive feedback. It's been just great," said Carol Bates of North Branch, who worked Friday at the stand. "It's been steady. It's a weekday, so tomorrow it's a weekend and I expect it will be more busy. Plus, the weather's been cooperating.
"Once word gets out we're open, I'm sure it will flood," Bates said. "Being only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, we're anticipating big weekends."
The stand offers a mouth-watering assortment of produce, including:
- Beets
- Kale
- Onions
- Basil
- Blueberries
- Peaches
- Plums
- Zucchinis
- Green beans
- Cucumbers
- Cauliflower
- Broccoli
Erin Glaros of Chesterfield Township, who works nearby, said she picked up some items Friday at The Berkley Farm Stand that she forgot to buy at the Royal Oak Farmers Market.
"It is good," said Glaros of her first visit to the Berkley stand. "I'm going to wait until the spices are full-grown and come back."
The Berkley Farm Stand, which is located in the vacant lot next to Clark's Ice Cream & Yogurt on Twelve Mile Road, starts all of its vegetable plants in greenhouses with organic, non-GMO seed and only offers Michigan-grown produce, its website says.
