Take A Sneak Peek Inside Coco Fairfield's In Berkley

The diner at the former site of Hogger's BBQ is expected to open before Berkley CruiseFest on Aug. 16, manager Barb Holderbaum says.

Coco Fairfield's in Berkley is putting on the finishing touches before the new diner opens in August.

The restaurant at the former site of Hogger's BBQ was expected to open in June, co-owner Martin Miller of Livonia said in May, but the opening has been pushed back to August due to equipment delivery delays, according to manager Barb Holderbaum.

She said the new goal is for Coco Fairfield's to open before the Berkley CruiseFest classic car parade Aug. 16.

Equipment is set to be delivered Friday, an inspection is scheduled Aug. 6 and staff members will be trained Aug. 8-9, she said.

Holderbaum and a crew of workers were busy getting things set up Wednesday at the site, which has a new look and feel.

Upgrades include decorative stone on the walls; reupholstered seating in a plum color; a wall of quirky clocks, including a chiming timepiece purchased at Oddfellows Antiques in Berkley; cutlery chandeliers made by Martin; and flower pictures purchased from Beth Mason Photography during the Berkley Art Bash.

"We have totally remodeled the inside," Miller said in May. "It is really cool. It's kind of '70s dinerish."

Coco Fairfield's will offer a naughty-and-nice menu, with selections on the healthy side that could include vegetarian and gluten-free items, while the sinful side will include decadent selections such as grilled cheese on cinnamon-raisin bread with bacon, he said.

"We're excited," Holderbaum said Wednesday. "It's been a long time coming."
