On any given day, the Butterfly Bake Shoppe is a popular Berkley destination for sweet delights. But on Fat Tuesday, the door swings a little more often as customers rush in for their paczki fix.
"I'm stopping on my way in to work," said Rosalynn Simpson of Oak Park. "I drive by here everyday and couldn't resist it today for paczki."
Butterfly Bake Shoppe owner Dawn Schwanke knows Fat Tuesday is a big day and had 75 dozen paczki in a variety of flavors ready to sell to customers throughout the day.
"We're probably through 25 dozen or so already, so they're going fast," Schwanke said just before 9 a.m. "Last year, we only had 25 dozen and they were gone by 10 o'clock. This year, we've got more."
As of noon, the bake shop still had paczki available. It is open until 6 p.m. for those who tried to fight the urge but give in this Fat Tuesday.
