New Firehouse Subs Franchise Moving into Former Foodtruck Cafe Spot

Franchise started by two firefighter brothers has a dozen other restaurants in Michigan.

Firehouse Subs is coming to Berkley to 58577 Woodward Ave., a location that has had a history of vacancies.

The new franchise restaurant is opening in the former location of The Foodtruck Cafe, which closed almost as soon as it opened.

The sign was placed on the restaurant’s facade Wednesday, but there’s no date on the Firehouse web site about when Berkley residents can get their first taste of the subs.

Firefighter brothers Chris and Robin Sorenson opened their first restaurant in Jacksonville, FL in 1994. There are now more than 700 Firehouse Subs restaurants in 36 states and Puerto Rico, including a dozen in Michigan.

The last restaurant to occupy the space on Woodward Avenue was the Foodtruck Cafe, which replaced the Coffee Beanery. The Foodtruck Cafe opened in June 2013, then abruptly closed two months later. The closing of The Foodtruck Cafe stemmed from misunderstanding about management.
