Gentlemen (and ladies, too), it’s not too late. There is still time to run out and get that perfect Valentine's Day gift for that perfect someone in your life – and the best news is that you don’t have to travel very far to find it.
Berkley is loaded with wonderful places to find a last-minute Valentine’s Day gift for that special someone, whether it be your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, best friend, children, co-worker or pet.
“Don’t be ashamed if you’re running out at the last minute,” Catching Fireflies owner April McCrumb said. “You can still find something that’s just right.”
Catching Fireflies is one of Berkley’s most unique shops and offers plenty of choices, including many that are handmade, for the last-minute shopper, according to employee Sara Anspach.
“We have an entire table of gifts that are perfect for Valentine’s Day,” Anspach said. “There’s our unique hand-warming mug to our True Love Hot Chocolate to Singles Awareness Day items. We have some jewelry, too. There’s something for everyone — there really is.”
McCrumb also noted that Valentine’s Day isn’t just for lovers — it’s for anyone you care about.
“We have some great items for kids and even some things for dog lovers, such as our kissing salt-and-pepper shakers,” McCrumb said. “There are a lot of very cute gifts.”
Chocolates and other edible gifts
If your valentine is more of a chocoholic, then Berkley’s Sweet Essentials might be the first stop on your last-minute gift excursion.
The folks at Sweet Essentials start preparing for Valentine’s Day a month in advance, and that means there are plenty of chocolate essentials, including its famous turtles, to pick up at the last minute.
“Honestly, most of our last-minute shoppers are going to be men,” Sweet Essentials employee Cynda Avery said. “We try and offer everything, price range-wise, so there’s going to be something for everybody.”
Valentine’s Day and Easter are two of Sweet Essentials' biggest days of the year, Avery said, and this means the shelves are stacked with unique chocolate and sweet creations.
“Valentine’s Day is all about chocolate for me,” Berkley resident Sam Lutz, 35, said while walking into Sweet Essentials on Monday afternoon. “It’s the perfect gift, I think, for anyone’s valentine. I’m here today to get some chocolate for my wife, my mom, my sisters and my daughter. It’s nice, too, that I get to eat some of it. It's a win-win gift.”
Although chocolate is a popular choice for last-minute shopper, picking up a bouquet of fruit at Edible Arrangements, a vegan sweet treat from Sugar Kisses or an arrangement of flowers from Dynasty Flowers are also good quick gift options.
Whatever you choose, Lutz noted, just make sure you put some thought into it — and make sure you get something.
“No one wants an IOU for Valentine’s Day,” Lutz said.
