Gottlieb's Metro Times appointment follows the departure of former Editor W. Kim Heron, who was with the Detroit-based newspaper since 2006, Crain's Detroit Business reports.

"Metro Times enjoys a unique position in Detroit's media landscape because of its 'alt' moniker," Gottlieb wrote in an email to Crain's. "The latitude our readers grant us in how we choose to craft our stories has always been attractive to me, both as a journalist and a reader."
