Foodtruck Cafe in Berkley Hosts Grand Opening on Friday

A grand opening celebration for the Foodtruck Cafe in Berkley is being held Friday, July 19.

The cafe opened in June at the former Coffee Beanery location on Woodward Avenue and embraces the growing popularity of food trucks.

Owner Kerry Johnson said the grand opening event will take place from 5:30-8 p.m. Friday, offering a free buffet and live entertainment from a sword swallower.

"People can just come and try our food. We want families to come and bring their kids," said Johnson, who said the business has been very busy since its opening. "It's been going really well."

A ribbon cutting will be held at 5:30 p.m., he said.

The Foodtruck Cafe offers the following three options under one roof:

  • Sideshow Sandwich Emporium features sandwiches with Coney Island-themed names, including unusual options such as "The Conundrum" made with smoked bacon, avocado, Tater Tots, tomato, onions and mayo.
  • Nacho Ordinary Nachos offers a variety of options to top the traditional chips-and-cheese dish, as well as other Mexican-inspired favorites.
  • Air-stream Coffee serves Illy brand coffee, as well as limited breakfast options, out of a booth decorated to look like the back half of an Airstream trailer.
