Demolition Makes Way for Bagger Dave's Addition

The burger chain expects to open its new space this summer; businesses that were located in the demolished building next door have relocated.

Demolition work under way just south of in Berkley is making way for an addition to the restaurant that will open this summer, complete with bistro-style windows and eight new craft beers.

Bagger Dave's expects to open the addition in time to hold a kick-off event before the Woodward Dream Cruise on Aug. 20, manager Jon Curtis said. Accounting for variances in the construction schedule, the work should be completed within six to eight weeks, he said.

The new room, which will include two more televisions and 36 seats, will be open year-round, Curtis said.

Berkley City Planner Amy Vansen said the addition will be approximately 700 square feet with large windows that can open during warmer months.

"It will be like a summertime beer garden, and then in the winter, they can close it up," she said.

The restaurant's parking will be moved south, which is why the demolition work is taking place, Vansen said.

L&L Plumbing Associates and the branch that were located inside the demolished building have moved to new addresses:

  • L&L Plumbing Associates is now located at 17650 W. 12 Mile Rd. in Southfield.
  • Allstate is now located at 3260 Coolidge Highway in Berkley.

Curtis said parking for Bagger Dave's will also be expanded. While he said the restaurant hopes to see more traffic, he doesn't expect the new space to generate more noise due because it will have a roof and walls, unlike being an exposed patio.

The addition is part of an overall upgrade at the site that Curtis said will include the following:

  • Seven new Michigan craft beers.
  • One new Guinness craft beer.
  • Kitchen improvements.
  • Improved service standards.

"I'm really impressed with the way the city of Berkley has caught on to everything," Curtis said. "They've been supportive with their comments and emails.

"A lot of people are excited," he said.
