Coolidge Collection Celebrates the Season With New Signs, Spooky Decorations

The Coolidge Collection welcomed fall this week with new signage and autumn-themed decorations that serve as a reminder the group's First Thursdays will continue throughout the season in Berkley.

The new teal-colored signs bearing the image of leaf can be seen outside the Coolidge Highway businesses that have united to promote the corridor's shopping district.

"We're having fun with this," chuckled Maureen Popkin, owner of June Moon Furniture Store and a Coolidge Collection member.

Popkin opted to display her Coolidge Collection sign on a bale of hay along with gourds, black birds, a disembodied Frankenstein hand and a big fuzzy spider. Other business owners decorated with flowers in shades of orange and gold.

Popkin said the Coolidge Collection businesses, which include the following, chipped in to pay for the new signs.

Popkin said the Coolidge Collection will hold its first First Thursdays event of the fall on Oct. 4, during which participating businesses will stay open late and offer discounts, snacks and more. Lucky shoppers may even get free cider and doughnuts, Popkin said.

"I wish more businesses were involved. I wish all the Coolidge businesses were involved," she said. "It's a cool thing. We're bringing positive activity to the city."
