Community Fighting To Keep Hiller's Market in Berkley

The store is set to close Nov. 1.

Hiller's Markets has announced the closure of the Berkley store. The store will be closed Nov. 1.

On their Facebook page, Jim and Justin Hiller said the store needed extensive renovations in order to stay open.

"The store is in dire need of renovation, however, the small footprint of the space makes it impossible for us to renovate to the standards of our other stores. Parking is also an issue at this location," they wrote. "We're not abandoning the neighborhood, however. We are currently in negotiations for another site in the Berkley/Royal Oak area, and plan to build a spectacular new store that is up to the standards of our other markets."

In response, residents started a Facebook page asking the company to reconsider.

Since its creation today, Please Stay Open Hillers of Berkley has garnered more than 700 likes.
