Catching Fireflies Collects Supplies, Raises Funds for Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

The drive at its Berkley and Rochester stores and on Facebook will benefit Detroit Dog Rescue.

Things are going to the dogs during October at Catching Fireflies.

The gift shop, which has locations in Berkley and Rochester, has teamed up with Detroit Dog Rescue to collect supplies and raise money in honor of Adopt a Shelter Dog Month.

Catching Fireflies will donate $1 for each new Facebook "Like" it receives through Oct. 31 and the funds will be given to Detroit Dog Rescue to help build a shelter in Detroit. The shop also is collecting paper towel rolls, used towels and blankets, durable dog toys, dog food, chewy dog treats, large leashes and collars.

Community members who donate five or more pet supplies with any purchase will receive a sign that says "All You Need is Love ... and a Dog."

"We have had a lot of great response," Catching Fireflies owner April McCrumb said. "A lot of times, people want to help but don't have the tools to make that happen."
