B. Nektar Meadery Expands, Mojave Cantina to Open and More Restaurant News

B. Nektar Meadery in Ferndale: The business recently opened a second production facility on Wordsworth Street in Ferndale with a tap and tasting room, according to a story at metromodemedia.com. It also is hiring new staff to accommodate the increased hours and is planning a spring festival on April 20 at its original location in Ferndale, which opened in 2008.

Restaurant Week in Royal Oak: Several eateries will be offering specials including $15 lunches and $25 dinners through Sunday, March 10. Learn more at royaloakrestaurantweek.com.

Mojave Cantina in Clawson: The Tex-Mex restaurant at 48 W. 14 Mile Road is set to open this weekend. "Until 9 p.m. or so, we’re a Tex-Mex cantina and we’ll be focused on dinner. We make everything from scratch,” partner Phil Lampos said. “But we’re also a sports bar and we’re going to have entertainment.” The late-night crowd can expect live music, weekly salsa dancing, 40 different beers and, of course, margaritas.

Barrio Tacos & Tequila in Birmingham: Located at 203 Hamilton Row, the Mexican restaurant specializing in gourmet tacos posted a sign reading "We Are Temporarily Closed" on its doors Feb. 24. The restaurant's owners later said they wouldn't reopen due to expensive overhead and the changing dining landscape in Birmingham.

Black Rock Bar & Grill in Novi: The restaurant that is slated to open in April in the Fountain Walk is hiring dozens of employees. Interested applicants may send their résumés to 10096 Highland Road, Hartland, MI 48353 or apply online. Black Rock features rock cooking, in which customers cook their food at their table. While the concept and service will be upscale, the kid-friendly restaurant will offer most dinners from $15-20. Other featured menu items include pizza, white fish, salmon and ribs.

Cupcake Station in Rochester: The sweets shop will open in the former Dessert Oasis space at 205 S. Main Street. Cupcake Station – with locations in Birmingham, Ann Arbor, Plymouth and Ferndale – features 24 flavors of cupcakes daily. Cupcakes are $2.75 each and flavors include Boston Creme, Red Velvet, Coconut Blitz and the popular Bump-a-licious.

Lucky's Prime Time in Rochester Hills: The chain known for its aged prime rib opened in February in the former Sero's restaurant at 1330 Walton Boulevard. Steaks and seafood, including salmon, grouper and mahi mahi, are served with choice of house or Caesar salad or cup of soup, fresh-baked bread and one side. Entrees range from $9.99 to $12.99.

Checkers in Lake Orion: A second franchise in the community opened Feb. 28 at 717 Brown Road. "It was really a good opening," co-owner Valerie Keyes said of the burger chain franchise that features a double drive-through. "We've had very strong sales. It's been great."
