Huntington Woods Men's Club gives BHS band good vibes

The Huntington Woods Men’s Club (HWMC) President Brian Bell got the first Berkley Instrumental Boosters meeting of the school year off to a great start by presenting BHS Band Director Alan Posner a check for $3,500 to purchase a vibraphone.

“The vibraphone, or vibes, is a percussion instrument that is similar to a xylophone or marimba. BHS owns a very old vibraphone that is in desperate need of being replaced. The vibraphone is not only used frequently in the concert/symphony band, it is used by the jazz bands. It is played by students with a background in percussion or piano,” said Posner.

Berkley Instrumental Boosters (BIB) president Gordy Oliva thanked the HWMC for its continued support of the band program. “As the band program continues to grow, it is great to see the support from the men’s club and the community,” he said.

The BIB is the fundraising arm of the Berkley Bands program at Berkley High School, Anderson Middle School and Norup International. On June 30th, the orchestra program formed an organization dedicated to raising funds for the orchestra programs in the Berkley School District. This year, the two groups will continue to work together on Tag Days (October 11-13) and the Fruit and Nut Sale.
