Schedule: Fall Theater at the Berman Center

What could Broadway legend Barbara Cook have in common with horses, elephants, and Winnie the Pooh? They'll all be featured during the Berman Center of the Performing Arts' 2012-13 season at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield.

The new Kids Sundays at the Berman this fall features a diverse collection of films and plays with lower ticket prices for children.

Meanwhile, the new Signature Series opens with Cook before continuing in 2013 with shows by Midori, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and The Acting Company. 

• For more than 50 years, Barbara Cook has appeared in
  sold-out concerts throughout the world as well for events at the White House, where she sang for Presidents Carter, Reagan, Bush and Clinton.
  Cook, whose concert at the Berman will feature songs by Rodgers and Hart, Stephen Sondheim and George Gershwin, began her career as appearing in "Oklahoma!" and "Carousel." She then launched a second career as a concert and recording artist in six triumphant returns to Carnegie Hall. She received the Tony, Grammy, Drama Desk and New York Drama Critics Circle Awards, was a 2011 Kennedy Center honoree and was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame.

• Angelina and her friends, Alice, Gracie, AZ, Viki — and even their teacher, Ms. Mimi — are all aflutter because a special guest is coming to visit Camembert Academy in this show based on the popular books and television series, "Angelina Ballerina: The Musical," presented by the Vital Theatre Company. Angelina and her friends perform all types of dance, including hip-hop, the Irish jig and of course, ballet, and they are excited to show off their skills to their famous visitor.

• Filmed amid the intoxicating scenery of a rustic, Roman quarry at the Opera Festival of St. Margarethen in Austria, this will be shown in High-Definition. This classic opera includes horses, elephants, pyrotechnical special effects and more than 400 participants taking the stage in an extraordinary story of the forbidden love between the Egyptian leader Radames and the beautiful Ethiopian princess Aida.

• An unforgettable film, based on an incredible true story of secrets and friendship, from the . Gretel Bergmann, who is Jewish, is one Germany’s best hopes for a gold medal at the 1936 Olympics in Nazi Berlin. Marie Ketteler is her greatest competition, a player who seems to exemplify German womanhood. She is a man.

• Nominated for numerous Academy Awards, including a win for best Original Music Score for "When You Believe," this movie tells the story of Moses, from his days as a prince to leading the children of Israel out of Egypt, featuring the voices of Michelle Pfeiffer, Ralph Fiennes, Ofra Haza, Steve Martin and Martin Short.

• Everybody’s favorite bear visits Metro Detroit! This charming play, presented by Wild Swan Theater, follows Pooh as he tries to trick bees out of their favorite snack (and his!), goes hunting for Heffalumps and gets stuck in the doorway of Rabbit’s house.
