Huntington Woods Native Kristen Bell Proposes to Dax Shepard

The actress popped the question Wednesday via Twitter following a pair of Supreme Court rulings on same-sex marriage; the pair had vowed not to wed until gay marriage became legal in California.

It's hard to imagine a more modern, egalitarian marriage proposal than the one Huntington Woods native Kristen Bell made Wednesday.

The actress proposed via Twitter to her longtime partner Dax Shepard of Milford, also an actor, following a pair of historic Supreme Court rulings on same-sex marriage. The pair, who welcomed their first child in March, had vowed not to wed until gay marriage became legal in California.

"We're not going to have a party when half of our friends ... can't do that thing we're doing," Shepard told CNN.com in an interview last summer as he and Bell promoted their film Hit & Run. "We're not going to ask them to come celebrate a right they don't have. That's just tacky!"

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court let stand a lower court ruling that struck down California's Proposition 8, effectively making gay weddings legal again in the state, and ruled the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which prohibits the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages legalized by states, is unconstitutional.

The rulings prompted Bell's romantic Tweet: ".@daxshepard1 will you marry me? Xo #marriageequality #loveislove” "

Shepard Tweeted his acceptance: "DOMA is dead. Prop 8 is dead. Now let's bring my big, gay marriage to @IMKristenBell to Life!!!!"

The pair has been together since 2007 and got engaged in 2009, according to the Los Angeles Times.
